Position: MTP500 Teaching Assistant

Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated individual to TA our Massage Theory and Practice first term course. This introductory course provides students with their first exposure to massage therapy techniques, professional conduct, and therapeutic tools. The instructor will guide students inbuilding a solid foundation in safe, effective, and ethical practice.
This course is 38 classes, approximately 3 half days per week.

Teaching Assistant Responsibilities include:

  • Familiarize yourself with the course outline and class materials prepared by the lead instructor
  • Communicating with the lead instructor to ensure an integrated presentation of material
  • Assist students with hands-on techniques
  • Answer questions and facilitate learning for multiple learning styles
  • Inputting marks and taking attendance
  • Attending staff meetings and performance reviews
  • Submit accurate payroll timesheets on time

Course Content Overview:

Massage Theory and Practice 100 introduces students to the fundamentals of massage therapy
practice. Topics include foundational Swedish massage techniques, an introduction to trigger
point therapy, proper body mechanics, stress management, hand and body care, taking a
health history, and an introduction to conducting client interviews. Students explore the history
of massage, the roles of massage therapists and spa practitioners, and how to recognize
indications and contraindications for treatment. The course emphasizes professionalism, self-
care, and effective client communication.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) with a minimum of 2 years of professional experience.
  • Familiarity with clinical and oral practical exam expectations.
  • Knowledge in the subject areas, demonstrating an interest in evidence-based practice.
  • Training in adult education theory and techniques is advantageous.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and participation in adult learning opportunities.
  • Wants to share the foundational knowledge required to enter the profession as well as your experience as an RMT.

The course emphasizes safe integration of hydrotherapy into massage practice, with a strong focus on understanding physiological effects and client safety. The curriculum reflects regulatory expectations that practitioners be well-educated in hydrotherapy to protect the public from potential harm, given the physiological manipulation involved.

Musculoskeletal Anatomy Palpation 100

Job Posting: Musculoskeletal Anatomy Palpation TA (B Stream)
Location: Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy (OVCMT) – Vernon, BC

Number of Classes: MS100B (12 classes)

Musculoskeletal Anatomy:

This first year course is designed to gain awareness and knowledge of the gross anatomy of the musculoskeletal systems of the human body and understand the functioning of these systems.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Demonstration of palpation and classroom management in a practical lab setting
  • Conducting all classes in accordance with the course outline, the class schedule, and all instructional materials adopted for the course.
  • Executing summative palpation assessments and finding examiners for palpation assessments
  • Being available for student support within a reasonable timeline (48-hour response to email and reasonable access prior to or after class)
  • Communicating with academic instructors to ensure continuity
  • Maintaining complete and accurate records of students’ grades and daily attendance
  • Recording and submission of grades to the appropriate personnel/software in a timely manner within the outlined time at the end of the course.

Qualifications:

  • A registered massage therapist (RMT) with 2 years’ experience in the field
  • Or a physiotherapist with massage therapy understanding and interest in teaching
  • Or chiropractor with massage therapy understanding and interest in teaching
  • Post-Secondary teaching experience and an interest in continuing education in adult learning is preferable
  • The candidate will possess the ability to connect academic learning to practical applications and relate the information to the students. An understanding of CCHPBC board exam expectations and awareness and understanding of the Entry Level to Practice Competencies and Guidelines for Foundational Knowledge is preferable.

Position Overview:
OVCMT is seeking passionate and experienced Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) to join our team as Clinical Supervisors. If you’re excited to support the next generation of massage therapists while remaining active in your profession, we’d love to hear from you.

Whether your background includes experience in pregnancy massage, sports therapy, oncology massage, scar tissue treatment, orthopedic, neurological, or systemic conditions, your skills are valuable to our diverse learning environment.

This position could range from 2.5 to 12 hours per week—schedules are known in advance.

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Supervisor, you will:

  • Supervise students in the on-site clinic to ensure safe, effective, and ethical treatment of patients.
  • Support and assess clinical charting, guiding students in producing documentation that meets current professional standards.
  • Demonstrate and teach massage techniques as they arise in real-time clinical situations.
  • Coach students on professionalism in a healthcare setting, including communication, conduct, and patient-centered care.

  • Teaching certificate or equivalent educational credentials/experience preferred
