Position: MTP500 Teaching Assistant
Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated individual to TA our Massage Theory and Practice first term course. This introductory course provides students with their first exposure to massage therapy techniques, professional conduct, and therapeutic tools. The instructor will guide students inbuilding a solid foundation in safe, effective, and ethical practice.
This course is 38 classes, approximately 3 half days per week.

Course Content Overview:
Massage Theory and Practice 100 introduces students to the fundamentals of massage therapy
practice. Topics include foundational Swedish massage techniques, an introduction to trigger
point therapy, proper body mechanics, stress management, hand and body care, taking a
health history, and an introduction to conducting client interviews. Students explore the history
of massage, the roles of massage therapists and spa practitioners, and how to recognize
indications and contraindications for treatment. The course emphasizes professionalism, self-
care, and effective client communication.

Course Content Overview:
Hydrotherapy 100 provides a comprehensive introduction to the therapeutic use of water and other materials applied to the body to influence the circulatory and nervous systems. Students will develop confidence in applying a wide variety of hydrotherapy treatments using hot, cold, and contrast applications. The course emphasizes safe integration of hydrotherapy into massage practice, with a strong focus on understanding physiological effects and client safety. The curriculum reflects regulatory expectations that practitioners be well-educated in hydrotherapy to protect the public from potential harm, given the physiological manipulation involved.
