As a registered massage therapist, you play a critical role in the healthcare industry. Not only do you help your clients manage pain, regain function, and alleviate stress, but you also contribute to the overall wellbeing of your community. But being an RMT isn't just about providing excellent care to your clients. It's also about serving your profession as a whole.

At Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy, we believe in graduating future RMTs who are not only well-rounded but also committed to serving their profession. That's why our leadership sits on several key organizations in the industry, including the Registered Massage Therapy Association of BC, the Canadian Council of Massage Therapy Schools, and the Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation.

We understand that as an RMT, you have a responsibility to make your profession better. One way to do that is by getting involved. There are several ways to do this, including serving on committees for the College of Massage Therapists of BC, the Registered Massage Therapy Association of BC, or running for a board position. Provincial associations can have  great  influence nationally working as one in organizations such as the Canadian Massage Therapy Alliance.

You could serve your profession by become involved in conducting and supporting research through the Massage Therapy Foundation, which bring massage therapists together  in its  annual  research conferences, and  who sponsor an annual student case report contest.

If education is your goal, you can also become involved in the accreditation of massage therapy programs across the country through the Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation or  connect  with and support educators by becoming involved with the Canadian Council of Massage Therapy Schools, who  also sponsor annual research and interpretive studies competitions for massage therapy students.

Getting involved in your profession is not only beneficial for the industry as a whole, but it's also a great way to grow professionally. By volunteering your time and expertise, you can gain valuable experience, build your network, and develop new skills. You can also make a difference by advocating for your profession and promoting the benefits of massage therapy to the public.

At Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy, we believe that serving your profession is an essential part of being an RMT. We encourage our graduates to get involved and make a difference in their communities. Whether you're just starting your career, or you've been practicing for years, there's always something you can do to help advance the massage therapy profession. So, take the first step and get  involved today!
