It’s not surprising that the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy (OVCMT) attracts applicants from all walks of life. Located in beautiful Vernon, British Columbia, OVMCT welcomes students into a therapeutic setting ideally matched to the study of health and wellbeing. Community-oriented and uniquely situated amidst numerous outdoor recreational facilities, the campus inspires an essential balance between academic pursuits and restorative relaxation.
Whether you’re pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, looking to re-train, or hoping to start your own practice, OVMCT supports diverse paths to success through its comprehensive program and range of course offerings.
If you’ve always dreamed of being your own boss, OVMCT offers a 2 year diploma program that prepares students to write the Board exams, become a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT), and launch their own practice. In addition to the extensive neuroanatomy and other integrated science knowledge that forms the foundation of massage theory and technique, students prepare for the important business aspects of the career - including client bookings, reception, payment, records and file management - by being involved in the college's onsite student-operated clinic.
Training at OVMCT prepares graduates to work in diverse industry settings by including practical experience with a range of clients, including maternity, geriatrics, sports massage and special needs. Whether you’d fit best at a wellness resort or a multi-disciplinary clinic, expert instructors ensure that graduates have the skills they need to become valued and respected professionals.
OVMCT also attracts students in pursuit of an academic degree. The standard curriculum includes foundational science courses, including anatomy and physiology, musculoskeletal anatomy, neuroanatomy and pathology. Graduates of the Massage Therapy Diploma program are also eligible to earn more than half the credits needed for a Bachelor of Health Science degree at Thompson Rivers University – and can complete the rest through distance learning.
Some of OVMCT’s most successful students have already completed an academic degree and are looking for more career-oriented, practical options. With a very high employment and success rate, massage therapy training is an appealing option for candidates interested in physical wellbeing, and in supporting the optimal health of others in their communities.
Across multiple industries, we’ve seen how unreasonable work structures – long hours, rigid schedules, minimal vacation time – impact quality of life and ultimately, personal happiness. Many OVMCT students are drawn to massage therapy college because it’s a portable and flexible career that leaves room in which to forge an essential work-life balance.
Young people are drawn to the opportunities for travel, and freedom from the confines of a traditional “day job.” Parents enjoy the option of scaling their work hours up or down, depending on changing demands at home.
Regardless of background, career path, age or objective – OVMCT offers students from all walks of life an inclusive place to learn, grow, and succeed.
