Educational Training Objectives - Massage
Therapy Program:
To ensure an understanding of the benefits and limitations
of massage therapy.
To present a course that is wide enough in scope to provide
a sound academic background integrated with a strong practical application
of massage therapy skills, communication, professionalism and community service.
To qualify each graduate to work successfully as a Registered
Massage Therapist in conjunction with other allied health professionals and
to give each graduate the opportunity to meet the entry requirements of a
four-year BHSc degree program.
To provide an orientation to basic business management so
that the graduate may operate a successful massage therapy business either
in a "self-employed", ”employer” or "employee"
capacity.
To provide a program which meets or exceeds the requirements
of the College of Massage Therapists of B.C. as well as the Government of
British Columbia Department of Education, Private Vocational Schools Regulations
Act.
To provide students with a foundation made up of Anatomy,
Physiology, Kinesiology, and Pathology. Students will progress from basic
manual massage skills to a variety of soft tissue modalities including movement
and mobilization therapy, hydrotherapy, trigger point therapy, and remedial
exercise.
To provide students with the ability to diagnose musculoskeletal
pathologies and to treat a variety of conditions and injuries that are deemed
responsive to Massage Therapy, utilizing a process-oriented approach and current
techniques , AND to educate clients in the prevention of injuries and disease.
To provide an educational environment which acknowledges that
the process of learning is equally as important as the desired end results.
