Textbooks and Supplies

Textbooks:
Studying in the LibraryStudents are required to pay for any textbooks purchased from OVCMT that are not covered by their initial supply deposit. Approximate costs for texts are: Year 1: $725.00, Year 2: $858.00, Year 3: $393.00. Textbook prices vary.
(Year 1 supplies will also be used where needed for Year 2 & Year 3)

Supply List for Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy Ltd:

Prices are approximate and are for budgeting purposes only.  Those items required or available to be purchased through OVCMT Little Shop of Wellness are bolded and italicized.  Year 1, Term 1 –Textbooks:  Approximately $725.00.  Textbooks are available for purchase at the college on orientation day, or may be purchased elsewhere.

The College’s retail outlet will be able to supply you with many of the items for both terms at savings to the student.  There is no obligation to order or purchase any item through the retail outlet.  Taxes are extra to budget pricing shown on these lists.

  • (Optional) - Photocopy blocks - $10/100 photocopies
  • 1 building access security card – $5.00
  • 1 combination lock ($5.95)
  • Portable massage table - Required shortly after classes start. The table is used for home assignments, and later on in the program for outreach massage events. The costs of these tables range from $350 - $1,000. Massage table brochures are available at the college for your review and table demonstrations are usually offered in first term.  Massage tables may be purchased through the college.
  • Anatomy Maniken - $475.00 – Manikens are mandatory for all students to use in Musculoskeletal Anatomy and need to be purchased with their textbooks.  Students may purchase a full maniken and opt to sell one half of the maniken to another student.  Extra charges will be incurred however as each one half maniken will require its own base ($27.00) and boom ($27.00), tool kit ($13.50) and clay ($13.50). 
  • Oil holster - ($8.75).  You are given a filled oil bottle for class in Year 1.  Any further oil or lotion needed will be the student’s expense.
  • 1 hand towel for face piece ($3.25)
  • 1 standard bath towel for draping ($6.50)
  • 2 flat sheets (cotton preferred) Length range: from 75" (190 cm) to 89" (225 cm); Width range: from 46.5" (118cm) to 57.5" (146 cm)  ($26.50)
  • 1 double blanket (wool or fleece for use as an insulating material)

Year 1, Term 2 Hydrotherapy-Spa Course and Clinic Supplies

  • Hydrotherapy Supply package (Students are required to purchase this package prior to Term 2) (two light weight dark sheets, one bath towel, one face cloth, one hand towel, one oral thermometer, one floating thermometer, one dry skin brush, one pair exfoliation gloves, one masking brush, two cellulose cleansing sponges, and two foil emergency blankets, two 100% cotton sheets and one double sized 100% cotton sheet) - $98.00
  • Hot Stones – set of 50 basalt stones ($199.00); Cold Stones – set of 5 hand crafted marble stones ($115.00) andRoaster ($99.00).
  • Essential Oils – set of 34 oils, two blending bottles and carrying case ($325.00). Also available are smaller sets of 10 oils - $90.00 and $130.00 which both include carrying case and one blending bottle.  Essential oils are used for Aromatherapy Classes and may be ordered through the college’s store at a huge savings.  Individual oils are also available through the college’s store.
  • Clinic Name Tag - $8.25
  • Customized clinic shirt - $20.00 (taxes included) for the first and second shirt.  Additional shirts may be purchased through our retail outlet at a cost of $22.75 plus taxes.  Shirts must be kept clean and meet clinic professional standards at all times and will need to be replaced at the student’s cost, if deemed necessary by the Clinic Supervisor (because of staining, etc.)  It is suggested that students purchase two shirts.  If you would like a second shirt, please order at the retail outlet.   
  • Full length, loose-fitting, solid-colored slacks for clinic (not cargos, or sweat pants);
  • Closed toe shoes and socks for clinic (clean solid colored runners are acceptable);

The following is an excerpt from the clinic manual. Requirements will be discussed with the student during clinic prep class prior to Term 2. 

PROFESSIONAL CLINIC ATTIRE AND APPEARANCE  

  • Customized clinic shirt – to be purchased through OVCMT;
  • Full length, loose-fitting, solid-colored slacks (not cargos, or sweat pants);
  • No denim pants of any color;      
  • Closed toe shoes and socks (clean solid colored runners are acceptable);
  • Fingernails are to be kept short, clean, and free of polish (even clear);
  • Jewelry must be kept to a minimum; 
  • Noticeable facial jewelry must be removed during clinic time;
  • Tattoos need to be concealed during clinic shifts;
  • Hair must be neat and off the face and any hair dye within the natural color range;
  • Perfume or essential oils may not be worn during clinic time.
