Kayla Cross, RMT

As a recent graduate of OVCMT, I have been fortunate enough to receive a locum contract for a well-established practice here in Vernon. My experiences at OVCMT have supported my endeavours in maintaining this practice. I especially found the Jurisprudence course, which outlines bylaws and billing practices for registered massage therapists, to be very helpful. Knowing the ins and outs of the actual “business aspect” of massage has been invaluable. As to the physical aspect of massage therapy, I would name the third year of schooling as the most important element. The time to learn new techniques, refine those already known, and the time for two practicums in which I practiced my craft, has allowed me to develop into the RMT I am now.
The start of my career in December brought a lot of excitement and apprehension into my life. The nerves went away quickly after the first week and were replaced with a deep sense of fulfillment. Finally, after three years, I had reached my goal of being an RMT. In my opinion, the best part of this job is seeing a client return to you with a smile because you have improved their quality of life. Making a positive difference in the overall health of a person is the most rewarding part of being a registered massage therapist.
