Karla Kriese, BSc (Kin), RMT
Being a recent graduate of OVCMT, graduating in June 2008 from the three year program, I have only been practicing for a short while. Since then I started my own home-based business and also work as a contractor at a spa. What I love most about being an RMT is having the ability and skills to help others in need. It is a very rewarding career to get into. In addition to this, because I am my own boss, the flexibility with work hours is wonderful!
The teaching staff at OVCMT was very knowledgeable in the areas taught and is well aware of the information that that needs to be covered. Every year they are informed about areas for improvement based on the results of the previous year’s Registration Board Exams and measures are taken to make sure students are prepared for exams and to enter the work force as RMT’s.
The practical experience gained during your time at OVCMT comes from working with and treating a diverse group of clientele and patients, from those with special needs or sports injuries, to massaging expectant mothers. The experience helps students to see if they have a specific area of interest that they may want to pursue.
My time at OVCMT was a great experience. Having completed previous education prior to entering OVCMT, I found that the smaller size of the school as well as classes, made it more personal and easier to get to know your teachers, fellow classmates, other students and office staff. Many close friendships are made and memories created. Additionally, the location of the school in Vernon BC is great as there is always something to do, from taking part in the various recreational activities available to checking out the various venues that makes Vernon unique in its own way.
