BHSc Degree

Graduates of the OVCMT three-year massage therapy diploma program are eligible to receive up to 90 credits towards the 120-credit Bachelor of Health Science degree that is now available through Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL). Applicants are required to submit official documentation showing their full post-secondary academic history. Students will consult with a TRU-OL Program Advisor to ensure the appropriate selection of courses for the additional 30 credits.

TRU-OL’s Bachelor of Health Science degree program is designed to provide health care diploma graduates from recognized programs and institutions, with the opportunity to obtain a bachelor’s degree related to their discipline. Degree access is a very significant development for massage therapists, which constitutes university level recognition for our Massage Therapy program.

Graduates of a two-year Massage Therapy program are eligible to transfer into Year Three at OVCMT. Once they graduate from Year Three they can access the TRU-OL Bachelor of Health Science degree program at the fourth year level.

Three points of significance about the BHSc degree to note:

  • A minimum of 15 of the additional credits needed must be upper-level credits. The residency requirements are for 15 credits, six of which must be TRU-OL’s upper-level courses in health issues (HEAL).
  • Applicants must have six credits in English (university-level composition and literature). OVCMT graduates receive three English credits. Students who have an interest in pursuing the degree option are strongly encouraged to take a university English course at the 100 level or higher to get the additional three credits required for entrance to fourth year. Suitable English courses are available at most university and community colleges. Please follow the links to Okanagan College and Thompson Rivers University English courses for examples. For confirmation that the course you have selected meets the requirements please contact a TRU-OL Enrolment Services Advisor through the contact information listed below.
  • Most of the courses will be offered online and may be completed over a period of time. This part-time approach is ideal for therapists who are establishing or working in their practices.
