Privacy Policy
The purpose of this Act is to govern the collection, use and disclose of personal information by organizations in a manner that recognizes both the right of the individuals to protect their personal information and the need of organizations to collect, use or disclose personal information for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances.
PIPA also gives individuals the right to access the personal information an organization has about them and to ask for the information to be corrected if they think that their personal information is incorrect or incomplete.
Privacy of your personal information is an essential part of our student health spa providing you with quality care. We understand the importance of protecting your personal information and committed to collecting, storing and using your personal information responsibly.
All staff members and students who come in contact with your personal information are aware of the sensitive nature of the information that you have disclosed to us on your Confidential Health History Form. They are all trained in the appropriate uses and protection of your information.
This office will collect, store and use information about you for the following purposes:
- to establish and maintain communication with the participant,
- to provide appropriate and safe massage, care and services,
- for teaching and training purposes,
- and to assist the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy Ltd. in complying with legal and regulatory requirements.
By filling out your Health History Form, you have agreed that you have given your informed consent to the collection, storage and use of your personal information for the purposes that are listed. If a new purpose arises for the use and/or disclosure of your personal information we will seek your approval in advance.
Your Health History form is stored in our on-site filing cabinets or in our record storage room. Both storage facilities are locked when the clinic is closed and accessible only by authorized personnel.
Our clinic will not, under any condition, supply your insurer with your confidential medical history. In the event this kind of a request is made, we will forward the information directly to you for review, and for your specific consent. When usual requests are received, we will contact you for permission to release such information.
If you wish your information to be shared with another member of the medical profession, you are required to submit a written request for your file.
Your information may be accessed by regulatory authorities under the terms of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) and for the defence of a legal issue.
The Privacy Information Officers for the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy Ltd. Student Health Spa are the Business Administrator and the Practicum Director. You may direct any questions or concerns to either individual.
