We think you will appreciate the family-like atmosphere and community-oriented spirit of the college. In 2012 OVCMT received the Community Supporter of the Year Award presented by the Vernon Chamber of Commerce.
Practice in Any Province BC is one of four provinces where Massage Therapy is a regulated profession. Graduation from the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy entitles you to write the Board Exams for registration with the College of Massage Therapists of BC. Once registered in BC you may register in the other regulated provinces without further education or examination (other than a jurisprudence exam). BC credentials are widely recognized in the non-regulated provinces.
Practical Training At OVCMT you participate in operating the on-site clinic facility, practicing your techniques on real patients under the guidance of our experienced supervisors. This includes the business practices of clinic; for example, patient bookings and reception, payment, records and file management – valuable knowledge for your future practice. Our diverse Outreach Programs develop your skills with a diverse variety of patients including special needs, maternity, geriatric and sports massage patients. Under the supervision of our staff RMTs, you focus on real patients with a variety of conditions and therapy requirements, including in care homes and sports facilities. We strive to offer a real life experience before heading out on your own as a practicing clinician.
Comprehensive Two-Year Program Our two-year program offers a unique mix of academic and practical courses coupled with extensive practicum experiences. Academic courses combine the foundational science courses – such as anatomy and physiology, musculoskeletal anatomy, neuroanatomy and pathology – with the functional courses – including business, research and jurisprudence – needed to support your future practice. A series of advanced practical courses including Neuromuscular Therapy, Sports Massage, Infant Massage and Advanced Techniques build on the skills learned in the core Massage and Clinical Theory and Practice courses. The clinical practice experience, totaling 550 hours, includes the Student-operated Massage Clinic and extensive Patient Outreach programs under the supervision of RMT professionals. Our Massage Therapy Program is in full compliance with the College of Massage Therapists of BC (CMTBC) and the Private Training Branch (PTIB) curriculum guidelines and accreditation requirements.
RMT Owned and Operated since its founding in 1994. This means that OVCMT operates in the best interests of our students and the massage therapy profession with an inside awareness of the industry. Owner and OVCMT alumni, Roxanne has worked in dynamic roles supervising, assisting and leading classes before taking on this new management role. She has a fresh connection to the needs of the community and the advancements in the massage therapy industry.
